The collection includes an account of an interview by Monroe, Frederick Muhlenberg, and Abraham Venable with Mrs. James Reynolds concerning her and her husband's dealings with Alexander Hamilton. J. Clingman writes to John Beckley relaying accusations of corruption against Hamilton; David Gelston records the minutes of a meeting between Monroe and Hamilton concerning Hamilton's relations with Reynolds; and that Monroe and Hamilton quarrelled and almost fought. John Dawson writes to Monroe about the Reynolds affair and the quarrel with Hamilton. Also, includes Monroe's draft of a letter to Hamilton about their quarrel, talks about a duel, and mentions Aaron Burr as an intermediary.
